Spiti Valley Tour Itinerary – 9 Days / 8 Nights

Route:
Shimla → Kalpa → Nako → Tabo → Kaza → Chandratal → Manali Best Time: Mid-May to Mid-October (via Shimla-Manali circuit)

Day 1: Arrival in Shimla / Narkanda

  • Arrive at Shimla or drive directly to Narkanda (shorter route to Spiti)

  • Scenic mountain drive through pine forests

  • Explore Hatu Peak (optional)

  • Overnight stay in Shimla/Narkanda


Day 2: Shimla/Narkanda to Sangla / Chitkul (Baspa Valley)

  • Drive through Rampur and Karcham

  • Reach Sangla or Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border

  • Explore Baspa river valley, local temples, wooden houses

  • Overnight stay in Sangla/Chitkul


Day 3: Sangla/Chitkul to Kalpa

  • Drive to Kalpa via Reckong Peo

  • Visit Suicide Point, Roghi Village, and enjoy stunning views of Kinnaur Kailash range

  • Overnight stay in Kalpa


Day 4: Kalpa to Nako → Tabo

  • Cross the Hindustan-Tibet Highway toward Nako village

Day 5: Tabo to Dhankar → Kaza

  • Reach Kaza (Spiti HQ)

  • Overnight stay in Kaza


Day 6: Kaza – Key Monastery, Kibber & Hikkim/Komik

  • Visit:

    • Key Monastery (largest in Spiti)

    • Kibber Village (wildlife sanctuary nearby)

    • Hikkim (world’s highest post office)

    • Komic (highest motorable village)

  • Overnight stay in Kaza


Day 7: Kaza to Chandratal Lake (via Kunzum Pass)

  • Drive through Losar and over Kunzum La (14,931 ft)

  • Reach Chandratal Lake – crystal-clear lake amidst high mountains

  • Optional: Camping near lake (basic tents)

  • Overnight stay near Chandratal (or proceed to Batal for stay)


Day 8: Chandratal to Manali

  • Early departure via rough terrain through Batal, Chatru, and Gramphu

  • Cross the famous Atal Tunnel or Rohtang Pass

  • Reach Manali by evening

  • Overnight stay in Manali


Day 9: Departure from Manali

  • Drop at Manali bus stand or transfer to Chandigarh/Delhi as per plan
